Facebook Pic of the Week: 1 to 7 June 2015

Our theme on Facebook for the week of 1 to 7 June 2015 was all about the magical time between sunset and sunrise in Africa - #DusktoDawn!

We received some wonderfully moody and atmospheric photos from our community for this theme. Alas, we could only choose one for this feature.

This magnificent male lion at sunset in Madikwe was photographed by Werner Dippenaar. Check out his FACEBOOK PAGE for more of his work!

Facebook Pic of the Week: 9 to 15 March 2015

Our theme for this week on our Facebook Page was #IconicImpala - and we asked our community to share images of the common yet beautiful little antelope with us

The AFRICANature brand is about high quality imagery. You don't have to be a professional photographer to produce high quality imagery, but you need to know your equipment, know your subject and know how to process your photos properly.

Wim Vorster takes the pick this week with this lovely moody silhouette of an Impala ram! Check out his WEBSITE for more of his work...

The images keep rolling in - it's an honour for us to represent some of the finest talent on the internet when it comes to showcasing photography of Africa's natural heritage.

Facebook Pic of the Week: 29 September to 5 October 2014

It was an OPEN WEEK again on our Facebook Page - so the hashtag was #AnythingGoes.

As usual, we received some incredible images to share with our community.

We as curator team would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all the contributing photographers who make this community the success that it is!

This spellbinding photo from Savute in Botswana was captured by Joey Nel. You can see more of her amazing photography on her FACEBOOK PAGE.

Facebook Pic of the Week: 1 to 7 September 2014

It was all about Black and White photography last week on the AFRICANature Facebook Page! Our theme was #MonochromeMagic and we received some incredible submissions.

Our selection this week immediately stood out after scrolling through the submissions...it was taken by Devon Macrae. The textures, strong compositional lines and curves and overall story just make it a great photo, and it shows that eye contact isn't everything it's made out to be. You can see more of Devon's work on his website: www.devonmacrae.com

Facebook Pic of the Week: 21 to 27 July 2014

The theme for this specific week on our Facebook Page was all about those lumpy Hippopotamus. The hashtag was #HippieHippos (just cause it's quirky) and we received (as usual) a great deal of high quality photographic submissions.

One image stood head and shoulders above the rest for its creativity and poignancy...
The photographer is James Campbell - and you can see more of his work on his website:
www.jacroc.com

The use of slow shutter speed and monochrome has created a wonderful visual treat here. Well done, James!

GooglePlus Pic of the Week: 7 to 13 July 2014

There was one photo that really stood out to us from the +AFRICANature page on Google+...

+Penny Robartes shared this magical photo of the embattled White Rhino, where light and mood come together to tell us something more about this subject. Over 1700 rhinos have been lost in the Kruger National Park alone since 2010, with reports coming thick and fast of Mozambican poaching kingpins living it large in neighbouring towns like Massingir. It seems there is little hope left for rhinos...

GooglePlus Pic of the Week: 23 to 29 June 2014

Hello everyone.

As is customary, every week we pick one photo from our G+ and one from our FB feed to feature here on the blog.

This photo of a journey of Giraffes (that's actually the collective name for this animal) walking across the plains of +Etosha National Park in Namibia was taken by +Michel Rademaker. You can see more of his lovely imagery on his 500px profile: http://500px.com/michelrademaker

Facebook Pic of the Week: 31 March to 6 April 2014

Last week, we had an open theme again on our Facebook Page - "anything goes" actually.

There were many interesting and beautiful photos shared - as usual - but this one just captured our attention. It was taken by a very talented multi-disciplinary photographer from Durban called Kierran Allen. It shows the dust and drama of a massive river crossing building up on the banks of the Mara river during the annual Great Migration.

You can see more of Kierran's work on his website: www.kierranallen.com

Facebook Pic of the Week: 24 to 30 March 2014

Our theme last week was called Elephantastic and we used the hashtag #Elephantastic on our Facebook Page.

The amount of totally stunning photos we received was very encouraging - we've got some talented people participating in the AFRICANature project. Unfortunately, we can't feature EVERY photo submitted, but take heart that many of the photos not featured this week might just be shared at a later stage.

Our pic of the week was especially tough, since there were so many diverse and amazing photos to choose from. Ultimately, there was one photo that really just stole the show...a sublime piece of photographic art capturing natural history and the soul of an elephant so beautifully.

Brett Greenaway is the photographer, so be sure to check out his online portfolio at 500px:
http://www.500px.com/BrettGreenaway

Brett's photo has reached 69,440 people at the time of writing this post! Thanks to everyone for sharing and promoting the work of our talented photographers.

Facebook Pic of the Week: 6 to 12 January 2014

Carrying on with backtracking through the past few weeks, now that the blog is functional and on a mission...

Hey - forgot to mention - the AFRICANature Facebook Page was launched pretty much exactly a year ago! What a journey...here's to more growth and more amazing images being showcased to the world by our amazing community of photographers in 2014.

Back to the topic at hand...
Every 2nd week we have a fun little theme going on. During the week of 6 to 12 January 2014, the theme was "Silhouette Superbowl", hashtag #SilhouetteSuperbowl. There were some amazingly moody and unique images submitted during that week - but one took the cake. The perfect confluence of planning, preparation, luck and execution on the part of the photographer.

Charl Senekal is the creator of this masterpiece. You can see more of his work as he shares it on the Facebook page of the Zimanga Private Game Reserve which he manages.

We hope you enjoy this one! Have a great day.
