Facebook Pic of the Week: 21 to 27 September 2015

We keep on trawling through our 2015 archives on Facebook...

No surprises that the theme for the week of 21 to 27 September was an open theme, meaning #AnythingGoes!

Elephants gently approaching a calm pool of water - this photo by William Steel deserves a nod this week. You can see more of his photos on his WEBSITE

Facebook Pic of the Week: 31 August to 6 September 2015

Yes, we are starting with our regular features again. Sorry about the lag :)

The theme ran for the week of 31 August to 6 September 2015 on Facebook was #OnTheWing, and it was all about birds in flight. A tricky photographic subject, especially for the little fast birds.

Our pick this week goes to Clint Ralph with this Malachite Kingfisher. You typically need a shutter speed of 1/8000 to capture these in sharp flight, and they are very small. Pretty huh?
See more of Clint's photo on his FACEBOOK PAGE.

GooglePlus Feature: Kirsten Frost

If you haven't noticed, we've fallen behind on our weekly features - haha.

Changes in the Google+ algorithm makes it harder and harder to trace posts on our profile down to specific dates, so we decided to change the Google+ blogs to a random feature.

That way - nobody can feel that somebody else was featured in a week where they didn't post, and fairness etc etc.

The random feature will be totally random, and random in it's randomness. It will be purely based on photos shared with the #AFRICANature hashtag that caught our eyes.

This week's random feature is a photo by +Kirsten Frost - be sure to check out more of his photos on Google+

Our theme on Facebook for the week of 1 to 7 June 2015 was all about the magical time between sunset and sunrise in Africa - #DusktoDawn!

Facebook Pic of the Week: 18 to 24 May 2015

Our theme for the week of 18 to 24 May on our Facebook Page was #InColdBlood.

It was all about cold-blooded animals (specifically reptiles, amphibians and fish). We asked our community of photographers to show us creative and compelling photos of these animals which are often ignored on platforms such as social media.

We received many great submissions, but this low angle photo of an African Rock Python swallowing an impala whole stole the show a bit. It was taken by Fred von Winckelmann, and you can see more of his work on his WEBSITE.

Facebook Pic of the Week: 11 to 17 May 2015

Well now, our theme for the week of 11 to 17 May on Facebook was all about Mother's in nature - it was the week in which we celebrated Mother's Day all over the world, so a fitting one indeed. #MommyMagic saw us receiving many adorable and "awww" moment photographs from our community.

This photo by Marlon du Toit stood out to us - the symmetry, soft colours and great composition made it a firm choice to feature this week. You can see more of his work on his WEBSITE.
