GooglePlus Feature: Kirsten Frost

If you haven't noticed, we've fallen behind on our weekly features - haha.

Changes in the Google+ algorithm makes it harder and harder to trace posts on our profile down to specific dates, so we decided to change the Google+ blogs to a random feature.

That way - nobody can feel that somebody else was featured in a week where they didn't post, and fairness etc etc.

The random feature will be totally random, and random in it's randomness. It will be purely based on photos shared with the #AFRICANature hashtag that caught our eyes.

This week's random feature is a photo by +Kirsten Frost - be sure to check out more of his photos on Google+

Facebook Pic of the Week: 15 to 21 June 2015

Our theme on Facebook for the week of 15 to 21 June 2015 was all about elephants, and we used the hashtag #Trunkated - we like to be quirky and punny like that.

We received some wonderful images, like we do every week, which makes selecting one to feature a tough task.

This lovely photo of an elephant enjoying a bath in the Chobe river that separates Botswana from Namibia was taken by Corlette Wessels. You can see more of her photography on her WEBSITE.

So, without further a due, here are our selections. One "wildlife, one "macro", one "avian" and one "landscape" photo!

Facebook Pic of the Week: 27 October to 3 November 2014

Our theme for this particular week was a goodie - #PowerPortraits. Our community members posted their powerful portraits of Africa's wildlife, birds and insects to the AFRICANature Facebook Page and we had a hard time choosing a favourite...

In the end, the low angle and high key processing on this elephant photo made it stand out. The photographer is Amanda Marais, and you can check out more of her work on her FACEBOOK PAGE.

We are very happy with the standard of images being shared with the theme - but that also makes our choice as curators even harder.

Facebook Pic of the Week: 6 to 12 October 2014

The theme for this specific week on our Facebook Page was #TallTrees. We asked our community to show us photos of the iconic trees of Africa - in a landscape, or with an animal/bird in the frame or under the tree or in the tree, etc.

As usual, we received some incredible images to share with our community.

We as curator team would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all the contributing photographers who make this community the success that it is!

This elephant seemed to have hit a roadblock on his way - we just love the quirkiness of this photo while still showing a tall tree of Africa. This image was captured by Denis Roschlau and you can see more of his work on his Facebook Page: www.facebook.com/WildlifeAddicts

Facebook Pic of the Week: 1 to 7 September 2014

It was all about Black and White photography last week on the AFRICANature Facebook Page! Our theme was #MonochromeMagic and we received some incredible submissions.

Our selection this week immediately stood out after scrolling through the submissions...it was taken by Devon Macrae. The textures, strong compositional lines and curves and overall story just make it a great photo, and it shows that eye contact isn't everything it's made out to be. You can see more of Devon's work on his website: www.devonmacrae.com

Facebook Pic of the Week: 24 to 30 March 2014

Our theme last week was called Elephantastic and we used the hashtag #Elephantastic on our Facebook Page.

The amount of totally stunning photos we received was very encouraging - we've got some talented people participating in the AFRICANature project. Unfortunately, we can't feature EVERY photo submitted, but take heart that many of the photos not featured this week might just be shared at a later stage.

Our pic of the week was especially tough, since there were so many diverse and amazing photos to choose from. Ultimately, there was one photo that really just stole the show...a sublime piece of photographic art capturing natural history and the soul of an elephant so beautifully.

Brett Greenaway is the photographer, so be sure to check out his online portfolio at 500px:
http://www.500px.com/BrettGreenaway

Brett's photo has reached 69,440 people at the time of writing this post! Thanks to everyone for sharing and promoting the work of our talented photographers.
