Facebook Pic of the Week: 31 August to 6 September 2015

Yes, we are starting with our regular features again. Sorry about the lag :)

The theme ran for the week of 31 August to 6 September 2015 on Facebook was #OnTheWing, and it was all about birds in flight. A tricky photographic subject, especially for the little fast birds.

Our pick this week goes to Clint Ralph with this Malachite Kingfisher. You typically need a shutter speed of 1/8000 to capture these in sharp flight, and they are very small. Pretty huh?
See more of Clint's photo on his FACEBOOK PAGE.

Facebook Pic of the Week: 6 to 12 July 2015

Our theme for the week of 6 to 12 July 2015 was all about the magnificent raptors that roam the African skies. #BirdsofPrey received some wonderful images, like we do every week, which makes selecting one to feature a tough task.

Mark Drysdale shared this photo of a Tawny Eagle in full flight. You can check out more of Mark's photography on his WEBSITE.

We had a specified theme on this week - #AfricanWings and it was all about "Birds in Flight". Birds are incredibly graceful and beautiful, and their mechanism of flight has always enthralled man.

Facebook Pic of the Week: 20 to 26 January 2014

It's time for another backlogged post, folks. Thanks for bearing with us.

The theme for the week of 20 to 26 January was all about our African feathered friends - the birds. The theme name was "African Birdie", using the hashtag #AfricanBirdie.

Our pic of the week shows a normally shy and elusive (yet beautiful) bird - the African Green Pigeon - captured in Botswana by the talented young photographer from the Netherlands, Mees Kuiper. You can check out his 500px profile here: http://500px.com/MeesKuiper
