Facebook Pic of the Week: 21 to 27 July 2014

The theme for this specific week on our Facebook Page was all about those lumpy Hippopotamus. The hashtag was #HippieHippos (just cause it's quirky) and we received (as usual) a great deal of high quality photographic submissions.

One image stood head and shoulders above the rest for its creativity and poignancy...
The photographer is James Campbell - and you can see more of his work on his website:
www.jacroc.com

The use of slow shutter speed and monochrome has created a wonderful visual treat here. Well done, James!

Facebook Pic of the Week: 14 to 20 July 2014

We didn't choose a specific theme for this particular week's sharing from our Facebook Page. A variety of landscape, bird and wildlife images made their way into the newsfeed of our followers, thanks to our amazing contributors.

Trevor Kleyn shared this unique photo of a Spotted Hyaena  lying amidst a bed of wildflowers, being closely watched by a journey of Giraffes. This scene played out in Mashatu, Botswana. You can see more of his work on his website: www.trevorkleyn.com

GooglePlus Pic of the Week: 7 to 13 July 2014

There was one photo that really stood out to us from the +AFRICANature page on Google+...

+Penny Robartes shared this magical photo of the embattled White Rhino, where light and mood come together to tell us something more about this subject. Over 1700 rhinos have been lost in the Kruger National Park alone since 2010, with reports coming thick and fast of Mozambican poaching kingpins living it large in neighbouring towns like Massingir. It seems there is little hope left for rhinos...

After a couple of interesting themes on our Facebook Page, we went back to an OPEN THEME (anything goes, actually) for this particular week.

This photo of a Kalahari cheetah in intense golden light stood out to us. The photographer is Keith Connelly, who is a safari guide based in the Timbavati Game Reserve, and you can see more of his work here: www.500px.com/Keith-Connelly

Facebook Pic of the Week: 30 June to 6 July 2014

Our theme for this particular week was a popular one - it was all about the cute little animals of Africa. The hashtag in use was #AFRICANCuteness and we received some jaw-dropping images to share on our Facebook Page.

Our pic of the week is the cutest little baby Meerkat you will see this side of the millenium. The photographer is Kyle de Nobrega, and he captured this photo while working at Tswalu Kalahari Reserve in South Africa. You can see more of his work here: www.inthestixx.com

Facebook Pic of the Week: 23 to 29 June 2014

Our theme last week on the AFRICANature Facebook Page was #CaptionCraze: we were looking for photos that are "caption-worthy", and the community was invited to post their captions in the comments.

Often, we tend to focus on the amazing and glorious species like lions, elephants, etc...yet there are so many more species to enjoy, so many moments to observe in the bush. One such moment is our pic of the week by Nobby Clarke. A red-billed oxpecker showing some TLC to an impala. You can follow Nobby on his Facebook page: www.facebook.com/Photography.by.Nobby
