GooglePlus Pic of the Week: 24 to 30 November 2014

The images keep rolling in - it's an honour for us to represent some of the finest talent on the internet when it comes to showcasing photography of Africa's natural heritage.

This week's choice is a beautifully serene scene of "Ol Doinyo L'engai", the "mountain of God", in Kenya - taken by +Andrea Catelli! Thanks for sharing with us, Andrea.

Thanks again to everyone who is contributing to the AFRICANature theme on G+. Facebook Pic of the Week: 24 to 30 November 2014

Our theme on our Facebook Page last week was #AnythingGoes - and we always receive a great variety of images to peruse and share during these open themes.

The AFRICANature brand is about high quality imagery. You don't have to be a professional photographer to produce high quality imagery, but you need to know your equipment, know your subject and know how to process your photos properly.

There's something ethereal and mystical about this image. The Greater Kudu has long been known as the "Grey Ghost of Africa" due to its elusive nature and ability to blend into the bush when it stands absolutely still. This image captures that essence of the antelope perfectly. It was captured by Daryl Dell. You can see more of his work on his Facebook Page.

We hope you enjoyed this selection. Please do share our webpage with those who are also interested in the natural heritage of Africa!

Facebook Pic of the Week: 27 October to 3 November 2014

Our theme for this particular week was a goodie - #PowerPortraits. Our community members posted their powerful portraits of Africa's wildlife, birds and insects to the AFRICANature Facebook Page and we had a hard time choosing a favourite...

In the end, the low angle and high key processing on this elephant photo made it stand out. The photographer is Amanda Marais, and you can check out more of her work on her FACEBOOK PAGE.

Facebook Pic of the Week: 20 to 26 October 2014

Our theme for this particular week on the AFRICANature Facebook Page was #AnythingGoes - and as usual the standard of submissions was very high!

The weekly pic not only represents a beautifully crafted photo, it also represents a once-in-a-lifetime sighting for the photographer and an animal that many people will never get to see, both because of its location (Ethiopia) and its conservation status (Endangered). It's an Ethiopian Wolf, photographed in the highlands of said country by Keith Connelly. Check out his Facebook Page for more of his work!

It was an OPEN THEME this past week, which means #AnythingGoes as far as photo submissions are concerned.

It was all about Black and White photography last week on the AFRICANature Facebook Page! Our theme was #MonochromeMagic and we received some incredible submissions.

Our selection this week immediately stood out after scrolling through the submissions...it was taken by Devon Macrae. The textures, strong compositional lines and curves and overall story just make it a great photo, and it shows that eye contact isn't everything it's made out to be. Hello fellow African nature fanatics! This specific week was an open theme on our Facebook Page - thus #AnythingGoes was the hashtag for the week.

Facebook Pic of the Week: 18 to 24 August 2014

Our Facebook Page came alive during this week with epic skies, "cloudporn" and the vastness of Africa. Our theme was #BigSkyCountry and we asked our community to be creative and share their photos that showed Africa's vast expansive skies.

There are few places as instantly recognisable and iconic as Table Mountain in Cape Town. This photo is one of the best we've seen of the bunch - and it was taken by arguably South Africa's top landscape photographer: Hougaard Malan. You can see more of his amazing work on his website (www.hougaardmalan.com) and join one of his landscape photography workshops in Africa and around the world: www.capturearth.com

GooglePlus Pic of the Week: 11 to 17 August 2014

How can we not share a lovely image of a species that needs as much publicity and awareness as it can muster? More than 600 rhinos have been ruthlessly butchered in South Africa this year alone to meet increasing demand from a growing middle- and upper class in Vietnam and China where the horn is used as a status drug and false medicine!

+Derek Evens captured this lovely moment somewhere in Southern Africa - location hidden for a reason obviously! You can see more of his work over on his blog: http://derekevens.wordpress.com/

Last week we featured a landscape photo, and in an attempt to break away from stereotypical "big 5" features, here's a lovely bird photo - a weaver from +Jaco Marx! He captured this photo at the exciting new photographic reserve near Mkuze in South Africa - Zimanga Private Game Reserve.

Facebook Pic of the Week: 4 to 10 August 2014

Our theme for the week on our Facebook Page was #UpCloseandPersonal, and we were looking for engaging closeups of Africa's wild creatures.

It's hard to ever see a closeup like this of the elusive Fossa - which is why we chose it. The Fossa is the apex predator on the island of Madagascar, and was made famous by the antics of the lemurs in the animated movie of the same name.

This photo was taken by Alison Buttigieg of Finland. You can see more of her work on her website: www.alisonbuttigieg.com

Facebook Pic of the Week: 28 July to 3 August 2014

During this particular week we had a theme on our Facebook Page that resulted in many awe-inspiring and jaw-dropping photo submissions. We will share our 2 favourites with you today...

The them was titled #PureGold and it was all about photos taken during the "golden hour" - the hour after dawn and the hour before sunset, when the light in Africa is purely sublime.

Our first selection is an absolutely stunning image of a lioness at first light in the Masai Mara (Kenya), with her steamy breath forming a mist around her head. It was taken by Richard Peters from the UK, and you can see more of his amazing work on his website: www.richardpeters.co.uk

This photo is the copyright of Richard Peters and unauthorised use is prohibited

Our second selection shows that it's not all wildlife in our community - we've seen some amazing landscape photos every week, and this photo taken from the air using an open-door helicopter shows the Namib desert in Namibia in all its glory. The photographer is James Gradwell from Cape Town, and you can check out his website here: www.photographytours.co.za

Facebook Pic of the Week: 21 to 27 July 2014

The theme for this specific week on our Facebook Page was all about those lumpy Hippopotamus. The hashtag was #HippieHippos (just cause it's quirky) and we received (as usual) a great deal of high quality photographic submissions.

One image stood head and shoulders above the rest for its creativity and poignancy...
The photographer is James Campbell - and you can see more of his work on his website:
www.jacroc.com

The use of slow shutter speed and monochrome has created a wonderful visual treat here. Well done, James!
